چکیده

Taxonomy is indispensable in understanding natural language. A variety of large scale, usage-based, data-driven lexical taxonomies have been constructed in recent years. Hypernym-hyponym relationship, which is considered as the backbone of lexical taxonomies can not only be used to categorize the data but also enables generalization. In particular, we focus on one of the most prominent properties of the hypernym-hyponym relationship, namely, transitivity, which has a significant implication for many applications. We show that, unlike human crafted ontologies and taxonomies, transitivity does not always hold in data-driven lexical taxonomies. We introduce a supervised approach to detect whether transitivity holds for any given pair of hypernym-hyponym relationships. Besides solving the inferencing problem, we also use the transitivity to derive new hypernym-hyponym relationships for data-driven lexical taxonomies. We conduct extensive experiments to show the effectiveness of our approach.

ExTaSem! Extending, Taxonomizing and Semantifying Domain Terminologies

We introduce EXTASEM!, a novel approach for the automatic learning of lexical taxonomies from domain terminologies. First, we exploit a very large semantic network to collect thousands of in-domain textual definitions. Second, we extract (hyponym, hypernym) pairs from each definition with a CRF-based algorithm trained on manually-validated data. Finally, we introduce a graph induction procedure...

Chinese Hypernym-Hyponym Extraction from User Generated Categories

Hypernym-hyponym (“is-a”) relations are key components in taxonomies, object hierarchies and knowledge graphs. While there is abundant research on is-a relation extraction in English, it still remains a challenge to identify such relations from Chinese knowledge sources accurately due to the flexibility of language expression. In this paper, we introduce a weakly supervised framework to extract...

USAAR at SemEval-2016 Task 13: Hyponym Endocentricity

This paper describes our submission to the SemEval-2016 Taxonomy Extraction Evaluation (TExEval-2) Task. We examine the endocentric nature of hyponyms and propose a simple rule-based method to identify hypernyms at high precision. For the food domain, we extract lists of terms from the Wikipedia lists of lists by using the name of each list as the endocentric head and treating all terms in the ...

A semantic priming approach

This study investigates the depth of lexical knowledge in first language (L1) speakers and second language (L2) learners in reference to hierarchical word knowledge. Eighty-eight participants took part in a lexical decision task that assessed their speed and accuracy in recognizing words and nonwords. Prime and target pairs in the lexical decision task were related words (hyponynm to hypernym a...

A DAML+OIL-Compliant Chinese Lexical Ontology

This paper presents an ongoing task that will construct a DAML+OIL-compliant Chinese Lexical Ontology. The ontology mainly comprises three components: a hierarchical taxonomy consisting of a set of concepts and a set of relations describing the relationships among the concepts, a set of lexical entries associated with the concepts and relations, and a set of axioms describing the constraints on...
